Concept: How Screen Time for Mac Will Look on macOS 10.15

A report from earlier this month revealed that Apple is going to bring Screen Time to Mac. The feature first debuted as a part of iOS 12 last year to help users keep a tab on their app and smartphone usage. With the next release of macOS still a couple of months away from its official announcement, creator Jacob Grozian has gone ahead and imagined how Screen Time on Mac would look like.

Screen Time on Mac is going to look similar to how it looks on iOS which is how it has been imagined in this concept. It looks particularly stunning to look at especially with the dark mode in macOS enabled.

All key Screen Time features including App Limits, Downtime, Family Screen Time, Time Limit, and more have also been created in great length. With App Limits, users can set the amount of time they will spend inside an app each day on their Mac. Once that limit is reached, the said app will be locked.



The Screen Time button in the Mac’s menu bar — as imagined in the concept — looks handy and I hope that Apple also ends up implementing something similar.

It is likely that Apple’s Screen Time implementation in macOS will look similar to the one imagined by Grozian here. Hopefully, Apple will also ensure that App Limits set in Screen Time works across platforms. So, for example, if one sets 1 hour as the limit for Twitter on their iPhone, the same restriction is carried over on their Mac as well.

Let's get one thing straight right off the bat. Generally speaking, Google does not want you downloading YouTube videos, because it (and YouTubers) make money from the advertising shown when you view the videos online. Google's terms of service for YouTube lay it out like this: "You shall not download any Content unless you see a 'download' or similar link displayed by YouTube on the Service for that Content."

How to download YouTube videos on YouTube Premium


Look for the 'download' button, next to the share button under the video.


Hit it and the download should start.


The button should turn blue to show you are downloading.


You can also view the progress of your downloads by hitting 'view'.


Once complete, the downloaded video is available to play for 30 days.

There are a few different programs you can use to download YouTube videos (and videos from other sites) to your PC to store or convert them. Take care, however as there are many dodgy programs out there. One reliable service that we tried is a tiny program called ClipGrab. It’s a free YouTube video downloader and converter, and it takes up very little space. It also works for other video hosting sites like Vimeo and DailyMotion.

Downloading YouTube videos with ClipGrab:


Download the ClipGrab program to your PC.


Launch the .exe file, and follow the Setup Wizard instructions


Once installed, open the program, and simply type in your YouTube search terms. I’ve used our video on ''how to conserve battery life on your smartphone'' video as an example. Or, if you already have the URL of the video you want, just click the ''Downloads'' tab and enter the URL.

Bear in mind that YouTube Premium works just as well on your smartphone using the YouTube app, so consider paying for it before resorting to the following unofficial methods.
YouTube Go

This is only a sort-of unofficial method, since this uses an app straight from Google. YouTube Go is a lighter version of YouTube intended for developing countries where Wi-Fi is scarce and mobile data very precious. As such, it features a download button for videos so that users can grab a video to watch when they don't have an Internet connection. One way to get the ability to download YouTube videos on Android is to use an alternative YouTube app. Naturally, Google will not think very highly of you for doing so, and you won't find such apps on the Play Store. But apps like NewPipe and OGYouTube give you a "download" button and also support background play, features that you'd normally need to to pay for Premium to enjoy.

How to return paid apps and games or in-app purchases

Google’s Android App return policy is simple: if you buy an Android app or game and you aren’t happy with it for any reason, you can return it within two hours for a full refund. After that two hour period is up, though, you have a 48-hour window during which a refund request can be processed by Google. After that, it’s up to the app developer to decide whether or not you should get your money back.

For in-app purchases, while it's not easy to get a refund without the approval of the developer, you can try via the same process as with the 48-hour window.

To claim a refund within 2 hours of purchase:


Open the Google Play Store app


Tap on the Menu icon and choose My Account


Select the app or game you want to return


Tap on Refund


Follow the on-screen instructions to get your money back and uninstall the app or game.

If the two hour period has already passed you won’t see a refund button; it will say Uninstall instead.

Disney Offers a First Look at Disney+ Streaming Service [Updated]

We have known that Disney was planning to launch its own dedicated streaming service for quite some time. And with Disney+ set to launch later this year, the gigantic company is only now offering a first look at what’s coming down the pike.

Update: Disney has confirmed that Disney+ will cost $6.99 per month. Or if you prefer to go with an annual membership, you can fork over $70 (which is about $5.83 per month).

It will launch on November 12, 2019.

Disney+ doesn’t have a price yet, but Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, has said that it will be competitive in the past. Whatever that actually turns out to be, though, remains to be seen. What’s more, the company is considering offering up a pretty big bundle with the likes of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for only a single monthly subscription price. However, no word on how much that will cost, or what type of tier of Hulu service would be included.

With so many properties under its umbrella, Disney had to find a way to make all of that content easy to find. With that in mind, Disney+ will have dedicated Hubs for the bigger brands out there. That includes Marvel, where the major motion pictures, as well as incoming television series, will be found. That includes the likes of Captain Marvel, which will make its debut at home on the streaming service instead of, say, Netflix. (It will still be available to purchase through iTunes and other platforms, of course.)

When a user opens Disney+, they will be offered up a variety of recommended content (similar to Netflix), as well as showing new content available on the platform. Disney will get its own hub, the aforementioned Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and National Geographic are also included, too. Disney+ will basically be available everywhere, from smartphones and tablets, to smart TVs, video game consoles, and web browsers.

Subscribers will have the ability to create profiles for households, and recommended content should be built upon each individual. For children’s accounts, there will automatically be parental tools implemented, which can be tweaked.

Disney is also making sure that content that’s available in 4K HDR will be presented as such, as long as it’s played on a supported device.

Disney+ doesn’t have a launch date, nor do we know how much it will cost just yet. Disney will more than likely announce that sometime soon, though.



Apple is in a similar situation with its own dedicated streaming option. The company recently announced Apple TV+, which will see a variety of different major motion pictures and television series, but only said that it would be launching later this year. It is also unknown just how much Apple TV+ will cost, or if Apple will offer up bundles to access it with, perhaps, Apple Music.
Our Take

Disney+ is a day-one purchase for this writer. With so much content already planned, and with Disney obviously going to keep adding to the mix over the months ahead, there’s just no way I can avoid it. Will it make it so I don’t need Netflix? No, not even a little bit. But as long as I’m getting worthwhile content, I’m okay forking over money every month to get it.

Qualcomm President: Apple Has Our Phone Number If They Need 5G Modem for iPhones

A report from earlier this week claimed that Intel was lagging behind in its 5G modem development and that this had put Apple’s plan of launching a 5G iPhone in 2020 in jeopardy. Despite the legal battle between the two companies, Qualcomm’s president says that it is ready to supply 5G modem to Apple for 2020 iPhones.

Qualcomm’s President Cristiano Amon said that while “can’t really comment on what Apple is doing,” though he noted that the longer any company waits to release a 5G product, the higher will be the bar for them to match.

“We’re still in San Diego, they have our phone number,” he said. “If they call, we’ll support them,” Qualcomm’s President Cristiano Amon told Axios.

Apple last sourced modem from Qualcomm for the 2017 iPhone variants sold in some parts of the world. For its 2018 iPhone lineup, the Cupertino company entirely switched to Intel’s modem.

Due to the ongoing legal issues between Apple and Qualcomm, the former is expected to source 5G modem for future iPhones from Intel only. However, as per reports, Intel is failing to meet the development deadlines which has put Apple in a fix. If Apple does not get sample chips by the second half of this year, it won’t be possible for the company to launch a 5G iPhone in 2020.

Apple itself is working on designing its own modem but that chip is still at least 2-3 years away from turning into a reality.
Our Take

It is unlikely that Apple will go back to Qualcomm for its 5G modem requirement. The company can very well delay the release of its 5G iPhone by a year but won’t source 5G modems from Qualcomm. Plus, 5G networks are still in nascent stages and they still have a long way to go in terms of adoption and coverage before the lack of 5G connectivity on iPhones will become an issue.

Firefox Send

First we should note that this app is still in unreleased status, so you may encounter some bugs and issues. With that out of the way, this Mozilla application, as its name suggests, is dedicated to sending files. You can share files with a maximum size of 1 GB but if you have a Firefox account the size goes up to 2.5 GB. The shared links remain valid for 7 days. Note that Firefox Send does not provide storage space in the cloud—it's a solution for sharing files (temporary, 24 hours without a Firefox account). Conversations are encrypted from start to finish.

Elder Scrolls: Blades is a mobile entry into Bethesda's long-running action RPG franchise. Now in early access on Android, the game delivers the familiar role-playing game experience: dungeon crawling, battling enemies, discovering armor and abilities, town-building and more. Players are currently being welcomed in waves to avoid server overload. This means that once you register, you'll have to wait for a notification stating that it's your turn. We should also note that the game has in-app payments and some pay-to-not-wait mechanics, which might not be to everyone’s liking. Hidey Hole

This app is aimed at Samsung fans who already own one of the smartphones from the new Galaxy S10 line (S10, S10 Plus and S10e) because it offers wallpapers that mask the display hole. The wallpapers are not made by the creator of the app, but rather aggregated from Reddit. The app itself allows you to modify them - adjusting brightness, contrast, etc. Hidey Hole also lets you download the wallpapers or directly set them as your background through the app. Although the developer explains that the application crashed on devices other than Samsung's three, it worked perfectly on Huawei devices too.

The name says it all: you are a fisherman. As the developer explains, you are "the master of the fishing rod, line and bait". The gameplay is really quite simple, but your fisherman is not the most talented. You have to help him! You can sell the fish you catch in order to get better bait, go fishing in new places and more. A fun little game for kids and adults alike, but the videos after each fishing session can get a little annoying over time.
