LG shares info on Lollipop updates for the G3 and G2

We’ve just recently heard about Samsung’s plans on updating it’s 2014 flagship, the Galaxy S5, to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and now more details are surfacing regarding other manufacturers and they respective top tier models. While the aforementioned Samsung bit is not official information, as it is based on a report citing unnamed sources (that claim December to be the month in which the Galaxy S5 will get the latest and greatest from Google), the plans for Android 5.0 Lollipop from the competitor are.
LG took it to Facebook (granted, to a localized page for Germany to be specific) to tell owners of the 2014 flagship, the G3, as well as owners of last year’s top model, the G2, when to expect the long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update. What our German skills (combined with Google Translate) help us get out of the wording is that those who own an LG G3 should expect the Android 5.0 Lollipop update sometime in the fourth quarter of 2014. While we are already in the fourth quarter of the year (October, November, December), and pretty much almost mid-way soon, there are still two months to go. Whether it will be November or December is yet unknown, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for you that it will be sooner than later.
Owners of the G2 were not so lucky to get an estimated timeframe (vague as the G3′s timeframe is): LG Germany only mentions that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update “will follow”. When exactly will it follow is a question we can’t answer at the moment, but, just like in the G3′s case above, we’re hoping for a quick roll-out process.
These plans above are referring to international (unlocked) devices. If you have an carrier version of the LG G3 (or G2), in the UK or in the States, the above dates might not apply to you. Sadly, it has been historically demonstrated that carrier variants get software updates later, as the entire process is lengthier, involving a lot of testing, and back and forth between the carriers and the manufacturer. In any case, we’ll inform you as soon as we find out more ourselves.

October 29th is just around the corner, and so is the announcement of the Oppo N3

Oppo teases another deviceOctober 29th is just around the corner, and so is the announcement of the Oppo N3. We’ve already seen our fair share of the device with its motorized, swivel camera and we know there will be two variants, one of which is made of an aluminium-lithium alloy. We’ve only been expecting one device to be announced at the event, however the above image has come out suggesting that the device could be joined by a second device. Of course, the device on the right behind the curtains is the Oppo N3 with the unmistakable swivel camera, however the device on the left is so far unidentified.
The rumour goes on to say that this new device will have the “world’s thinnest appearance” and will measure only 4mm thick. Considering the current record holder, the Gionee Elife S5.1, already comes in at a ridiculous 5.1mm thick, we’re a bit skeptical that Oppo has managed to shave off an entire 1mm somewhere, though we won’t have to wait long to see whether this rumour is true or not. Assuming the image above is to scale, and the Oppo N3 is 5.9-inches as expected, this new mystery device could be no small thing itself.

TELUS has very quietly slipped another one of HTC’s entry-level smartphones, the HTC Desire 320

HTC Desire 320 CAM AHTELUS has very quietly slipped another one of HTC’s entry-level smartphones, the HTC Desire 320, onto its prepaid arsenal for $100 with free shipping and no activation fee – in dark grey only.  It does not appear that it will be offered on contract at all – and rightly so, as it is clearly a prepaid 3G low-end device that HTC seems to be parading as a mid-range device with a list price of $220.  While solidly made, it is a typical cookie-cutter device with rounded corners, is a full 11.25mm thick and weighs in at 140 grams.  You can also pick up the HTC Desire 320 from Future Shop or Best Buy on Koodo for $99.99 as a prepaid as well.  TELUS also offers the HTC Desire 510 LTE model for $0 on a 2-year term or $200 on a no-term.

LG G3 to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop by year’s end

LG G3 to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop by year’s end?

LG G3 to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop by year's end?
24.10.2014 - by
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is one of the most anticipated releases from Google, partially because it introduces a completely revamped user interface. The Nexus line-up will be the first to make the jump to Lollipop starting with the 3rd of November, and the rest of the manufacturers will then follow. When? Well, that’s a question we all try to answer, but rolling out new updates has always been a tricky job on the Android side of things. Fortunately though, owners of the LG G3 might enjoy Google’s latest release by year’s end.
In the past LG had a rather bad reputation when it came to releasing software updates, but over the past couple of years the Korean tech giant improved its roll-out strategy considerably. In a quest to keep customers happy, LG might plan on releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on the LG G3 by the end of 2014. The rumor originates from Netherlands and our colleagues over at “Allaboutphones”, so the aforementioned timeframe might apply to Netherlands only. In any case, Korea should be the first country to receive Android 5.0 on the LG G3, so who knows how the roll-out will further expand between the update’s debut and its alleged release in the Netherlands?

Samsung launches the Galaxy Mega 2 in India

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 has reached India today. Samsung has officially launched the mid-range phablet in the subcontinent. This comes after the Mega 2 has previously gone on sale in Malaysia, and got listed on the official Samsung website in Thailand. In the US, AT&T is due to start offering it today too.
Over in India, the Galaxy Mega 2 is already available to buy from Samsung's own online store. It's priced at INR 20,900, which means about $341 or €269.

It's being offered in both white and black, and the store says it does currently have sufficient stock.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 comes with a 6-inch 720p touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5 MP front snapper, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, as well as microSD card support.
A 1.2 GHz quad-core processor runs things, and dual-SIM support is built in, although in terms of mobile data connectivity the Mega 2 tops out at 21Mbps HSDPA. It also has Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 2,800 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

Huawei Honor 4X comprehensively leaked

A few days ago, we saw the Huawei Honor 4X comprehensively leaked after it got certified for sale on the Chinese market.
The leak brought us some pictures of the handset, its specs, as well as a rumored price point of CNY 800 (that would be $130 or €103 at the current exchange rates).
New information, however, seems to contradict that. According to another source, the Honor 4X will definitely be priced under CNY 1,000, though it will probably go for CNY 899. That translates into $146 or €115.
It's not a big difference compared to what the previous rumor said, but it is one nevertheless. We should know for sure on October 28, since that's when Huawei will make this Honor-branded device official.
The Honor 4X will sport a 5.5-inch 720p touchscreen, a 13 MP rear camera with LED flash, a 5 MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage, and a microSD card slot for expanding that.
At the helm will be a 64-bit Qualcomm chipset coming with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor - this is almost certainly the Snapdragon 410, although it isn't named in the leak. The Honor 4X will support 4G LTE networks, and will run Android 4.4 KitKat.

Sony is working on a 12-inch table

Sony is working on a 12-inch tablet, a rumor originating with "Taiwan-based supply chain makers" claims. This tablet is reportedly going to become available in the first quarter of next year, so before the end of March.
It will be a high-end slate, and will also feature a stylus, apparently targeting markets with demand for graphics-related applications.

Unfortunately, no other details are known at this point. So far, the Xperia Z2 Tablet (pictured above) is Sony's biggest offering in this space, coming with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Since the source of this rumor has a rather shaky record, you should definitely take this with a hefty dose of salt, at least until we get another report on the matter. Many mobile device makers have been rumored to step into the huge tablet business, but so far few have actually done that.
If this information does pan out, then it looks like Sony will position its big tablet as a direct competitor to Samsung's 12.2-inch Galaxy Note Pro, which also has a stylus.

These are in a similar price bracket, so today we’re looking at the Moto G 2nd gen vs. Galaxy Core 2 India price and specs.

Processors
The Moto G 2nd generation has a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and Adreno 305 graphics. The Galaxy Core 2 (Core II) has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, though the chip and GPU have not been specified.

Asus holding event October 28 for new Zenfone and ZenWatch

We told you about Asus getting into the wearables market with the upcoming ZenWatch, but we haven’t really talked about a new Zenfone. We won’t have to as the company will take care of that on October 28 during their “Unlock the Future” event.
Asus was relatively quiet during IFA 2014 aside from the ZenWatch. We actually haven’t heard much about the company’s first wearable since that time, but did learn that it is said to get a limited releaseand may not cross international borders anytime soon. Good news for the LG G Watch R and the Moto 360, but the news isn’t so good if you were looking forward to a low-priced Android Wear smartwatch.
Asus will unveil the ZenWatch to the masses at their Unlock the Future event, and they also plan on showing off what we assume will be the new Zenphone. The company has had a lot of success with the Zenfone 5 and several other models, and there’s no reason to think the Zenfone 7 (if that’s what it’s called) won’t be a big seller as well.

The Nokia Lumia 530 released back

The Nokia Lumia 530 released back in August and is a very affordable Windows Phone handset. It was already reasonably priced at Carphone Warehouse and now there has been a big Nokia Lumia 530 price cut for UK buyers. Read on for more details about how much money you can save.
When the Lumia 530 first arrived for sale in the UK it had a SIM-free price tag of £89.95 at CarphoneWarehouse. Now the no-contract price has been dropped to just £49.95, a whopping saving of £40 although you’ll also need to pay a PAYG SIM with a £10 top-up. The phone is in stock right now in black, green, orange or yellow colour options, with the yellow version being an exclusive to Carphone Warehouse.
Alternatively for customers who are upgrading, the phone is just £29.95, down from £39.95. Either way this is a good saving on the previous price at Carphone Warehouse, and something many buyers might consider. The Lumia 530 doesn’t have exciting specs but does offer value for money, and would be a good choice for those moving to a smartphone for the first time, or for kids.
Specs include a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor, 4-inch display with resolution of 854 x 480, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage that’s expandable via microSD to 128GB. It has a 5-megapixel camera, a 1430 mAh battery and runs the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system with Nokia’s Lumia Denim.
Are you tempted to buy the Nokia Lumia 530 at this new lower price at Carphone Warehouse?

Meizu CEO: Meizu’s Smartphones Will Keep On Running Flyme OS, No Need For YunOS

Meizu, as a company, is doing great. They’re actually having issues meeting the demand when it comes to company’s MX4 flagship. This device was announced at the beginning of last month and is still selling rather well. International availability, affordable price point and a really well-built smartphone resulted in great demand for this Chinese manufacturer. Not to mention that they the company is getting ready to launch Meizu MX4 Pro, or so it seems.
I don’t know if you recall, but about a week ago we stumbled upon a Meizu device running YunOS. There were some rumors this is an upcoming Meizu MX4 Mini device and that it might sport YunOS instead of Flyme. That won’t be the case according to Huang Zhang (also known as J. Wong), Meizu’s founder and CEO. “YunOS is a very good operating system, but Meizu smartphones need Flyme. It is impossible for Meizu to become an entry-level mobile internet enterprise without Flyme. A better smartphone needs a better operating system.” said Zhang on his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account. Later on, Zhang has deleted that post and posted something almost identical, but without the “YunOS is a very good operating system” part. This, of course, created all sorts of speculations about the relationship between Meizu and Alibaba, that it might not be as stable as everyone thought. Meizu invested in Alibaba and YunOS in the past, so this seems rather odd. YunOS smartphones are currently available only in China.
