Mi Note Pro Frenzy: In-Store Cots, Unbelievable Pre-Orders
With the Mi Note Pro superphone about to go on sale in China, things are becoming an Apple-like frenzy over there that’s out-Apple-ing Apple!
The Mi Note Pro goes on sale tomorrow, with some units being sold in certain Xiaomi store-like locations.
In one such location, Xiaomi has set up cots for customers to sleep in-store!
I don’t think Apple ever did that here in the U.S.. I think the most they ever did was hand out coffee or assign tickets during bad weather so people could sleep at home and come back to a saved spot in line.
There are other Weibos showing similar lines at other locations. Some with tents!
This is wild.
There are nineteen such Xiaomi stores, which are showcase and support stores that haven’t done any actual retail sales. But tomorrow they will, of a limited inventory of the Mi Note Pro.
People who line up get a chance at a “commemorative” Lei Jun T-shirt:
Meanwhile, Xiaomi has made a claim that I find very, very difficult to believe:One hundred million pre-orders of the Mi Note Pro.
Although someone else on Twitter said that’s one hundred million, I don’t think so.
Later Weibos talk about one million pre-sale reservations having been made, which is probably what is meant and also a record for Xiaomi.
I don’t fault anyone in China being so excited over the Mi Note Pro that they’d line up overnight for it. Still, if they were to order it online, some of them could have same-day delivery, as was shown with last year’s 11/11 sale.
